Pursing your lips to drink through a straw is essentially the same movement as puffing on a cigarette. Over time, that repetitive muscle motion can lead to wrinkles on your upper lip.
While drinking through a straw is nowhere near as damaging as puffing on a cigarette, using a straw over a period of years can cause your lip muscles to remain in a pursed position. This can lead to fine lines that eventually turn into deep wrinkles.
To fight upper-lip wrinkle formation, drink straight from a glass whenever you can. We know that drinking from a straw is sometimes necessary, especially when you’re on the go, so don’t worry if you have to drink this way once or twice a week. You won’t get wrinkles overnight.
But if you find yourself drinking from a straw all day, every day, you’re on a fast track to getting wrinkles on your upper lip that then deepen and become permanent over time.
3. Exfoliate For Kissable Wrinkle-Free Lips
Exfoliation is one of the cornerstones of a healthy beauty routine. Done daily or once or twice a week, exfoliation works to remove dry, dead skin cells to reveal fresher, younger-looking skin underneath and bring forth a youthful glow. This allows your body to focus its energy on keeping your skin healthy rather than having to deal with old, excess cells.
Exfoliating also helps your skin retain moisture more efficiently. The increase in moisture can help heal existing wrinkles and prevent new wrinkles from forming.
Keep in mind that too much exfoliation, or the wrong exfoliant, can leave your skin feeling raw, tight, and sore. That’s why it’s important to restrict your exfoliation to no more than twice a week.
Not all skin is the same, it’s also important to use a gentle exfoliant like baking soda. Here’s our favorite, simple recipe to create a gentle exfoliant.
- Begin by washing your face, neck and chest with warm water and an oil-free cleanser to remove makeup and open pores.
- Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda into a small bowl.
- Add 1 teaspoon of water and mix until you’ve created a loose paste.
- Using your fingers, gently massage the baking soda into your skin using small circular motions.
- Rinse your face with warm water to remove the baking soda, and then with cold water to close and tighten pores.
- Pat your skin dry with a soft towel.
You can also mix a small amount of baking soda into your existing face wash or cleanser to make an exfoliating cleanser. Whichever method you choose, try to resist the urge to scrub. Too much pressure will damage the healthy skin underneath. Be gentle and remember that exfoliation should never hurt.
