Get Rid Of Moisture
Moisture is spiders (and other bugs) friend. Most spiders like to live in areas with high moisture, which is why you often find them living in your basement. Most basements tend to be a little more damp than the rest of your home.
Get rid of any moisture that you can. Fix leaky pipes, stop any leaks in your home, and take the moisture out of the air.
If you have a basement that has a high moisture problem you can use moisture absorbers. They really do a great job of cutting down on moisture and getting rid of damp smells.
I place them in a couple of areas around our basement to help get rid of spiders.
Caulk and Seal
Caulking and sealing is another easy way to get rid of spiders. They can easily find their way into your home through small cracks.
By carefully sealing around windows and doors you will help keep the spiders out of your home.
Every spring and fall spend an hour or so walking the exterior of your home. Caulk any areas that need it. When you seal up your home you will keep the spiders away.
It is an easy way to naturally keep spiders gone. No chemicals are needed!
Use Diatomaceous Earth
For garages and basements, you can use diatomaceous earth to get rid of spiders. Diatomaceous earth doesn’t repel spiders however it will kill them.
It also will kill ants and roaches if you have problems with them. Just sprinkle a little of the diatomaceous earth in areas where you want to kill the spiders.
Keep in mind that even though it is food safe you will still want to keep it away from pets and children.
Spray Peppermint Oil
Spiders hate peppermint oil so spraying it around the house is a great way to get rid of spiders.
You can mix up a spray bottle with peppermint oil and water and spray around windows and doors to keep the spiders away. For every cup of water add about 20 drops of peppermint oil.
Not only will peppermint naturally keep the spiders away but it will also make your house smell good.
Add Spider Repelling Plants
Another great way to get rid of spiders is by adding plants that repel spiders. Certain plants like lemongrass, mint, and eucalyptus naturally get rid of spiders.
You can naturally keep the spiders away just by planting these around your home. Instead of trying to get into your home, they will head on over to your neighbors. Plus, they all smell great too!
