Inside: Dealing with a cold or flu at your house? Don’t let it spread around your family. Check out these easy tips on cleaning the house after the flu.
A few years ago my husband got a case of the stomach flu right after Christmas. For over a week he was completely miserable and sick.
I was scared that I would get it, or worse, my son would get it. I cleaned the house from top to bottom constantly. My hands ended up dry and cracking from all the hand washings.
I also spent a lot of time online reading about how to prevent the spread of illness this time of year. I learned a lot that I really didn’t know about how the cold and flu virus spreads. It changed some of my every day cleaning routines.
Thankfully, no one else caught it. I would like to think that part of it was due to my cleaning.
It’s that time of year again where the cold and flu virus starts picking up. If you or someone in your family has the flu check out these tips on how to clean your house after the flu or cold.
It doesn’t take much time to get your home clean from the flu and keep everyone from getting sick!
Disinfect Laundry
One of the biggest things I learned when my husband was sick was that I needed to disinfect my laundry.
I had always assumed if I was washing the clothes in hot water with detergent it would disinfect the clothes. I quickly learned that the machine will only spread the virus if you don’t use a disinfectant in the laundry.
If you have whites you can use bleach to disinfect the load of laundry. Or if you have darks you would like to disinfect you can use a laundry sanitizer. I use this one from Amazon and love it.
Whenever someone is sick I can use it on all of our laundry to keep others from getting sick. I also use it on any towels that I can’t bleach during cold and flu season. Disinfecting the laundry can be one of the most important things to do when cleaning the house after the flu.
