DIY Shower Spray To Use Everyday

Tired of scrubbing a dirty shower? Save time with this DIY shower spray. Prevent mold and keep your shower looking clean with this homemade shower spray.

If you have followed my blog long at all you know I love talking about all things clean! Even though I haven’t always been a clean freak I have always loved finding new ways to clean.

I really got into cleaning when my son started school. I was trying to come up with a new cleaning routine and I found the Flylady routine.

Her routines seem a little crazy at first, but eventually, I saw how helpful they really are. Things like cleaning the toilet bowl every single day seemed like overkill, but after a while I saw the benefit.

I realized that the more things I was able to clean or wipe down each day kept my house clean in less time. It’s kind of like doing your dishes while you cook. It just makes life easier.

The shower is the same way. If I ignore our shower for weeks it will become a big mess that is hard to clean. Hard water stains buildup on the door, mildew can start making the shower smelly, and the faucet will get limescale buildup.

But, if I use a daily shower spray to spray down the shower before we get out then it keeps everything from building up and the shower stays clean. I would much rather spend 30 seconds every day spraying it down rather than spending 30 minutes cleaning it once it got really dirty.

If you are looking for easy ways to make cleaning easier I highly recommend this DIY shower spray. It’s easy (and cheap!) to make and does a great job of keeping your shower clean. In just seconds a day, you can keep your shower looking clean and save yourself time.

To make up a batch of the homemade shower spray you just need a few things. Most of which you probably have around the house. You will need vinegar, rubbing alcohol, soap, and essential oils. Plus a bottle to store it in and water.

It’s often suggested to use glass with essential oils but I didn’t at all like the idea of using glass in the shower, so I use a metal spray bottle that I bought on Amazon. You can use whatever works best for you.

To start you will want to put 1/2 cup of vinegar and 3/4 cup of water in the bottle. Then add 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol.

Next, you will want to add some soap to the mix. I personally like Dawn dish soap for the DIY shower spray, however, some people swear by castile soap. Castile soap is great but doesn’t work as well with hard water, in my opinion. So if you tend to have hard water I would stick to dawn.

I use about 5 drops of dawn soap. Depending on what soap you use you may want to use a little more or a little less. The most important thing is not to use too much. If you use too much soap the shower floor could become slippery. I recommend starting with less and adding more if needed.

Finally, add about 10-20 drops of lemon essential oil to the bottle. Give it a little shake and you are ready to use.

Together all of these work together to keep your shower clean. The vinegar will kill off germs and bacteria, plus keep the hard water from forming on surfaces. The rubbing alcohol will help the mix dry fast so it doesn’t leave water spots.

The dawn soap will help clean the shower and the lemon essential oil will also help to kill off any bacteria.
